Maureen Heffernan, retiring Myriad Botanical Gardens and Scissortail Park CEO, is the recipient of the 2024 James R. Tolbert Crystal Orchid Award and will be honored on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. during the annual Orchids in October ceremony and luncheon in the Park House. Orchids in October honors those who significantly impact the beauty and vibrancy of Myriad Botanical Gardens and downtown Oklahoma City.
Under Maureen’s transformative leadership, working with the board of directors since 2011, the Gardens have flourished in beauty, programming, significant capital improvements, financial stability, and increased visitation. Most recently, a fully renovated Inasmuch Foundation Crystal Bridge Conservatory has further elevated the Gardens as a top botanical destination.
In 2017, her job expanded to help plan and operate the new 70-acre Scissortail Park. Since opening in 2019, the Park has had stunning success as a destination for all to enjoy its beauty, play elements, and signature programs Maureen initiated, including its Farmer’s Market, Concert Series, Night Markets, and Holiday events.
