Join us Thursday, October 17 for Orchids in October. This annual luncheon honors an individual who has significantly advanced the beauty and vibrancy of Myriad Botanical Gardens and downtown Oklahoma City. This year’s honoree to receive the James R. Tolbert Crystal Orchid Award is retiring Myriad Botanical Gardens and Scissortail Park CEO Maureen Heffernan.

Under Maureen’s transformative leadership, working with the board of directors since 2011, the Gardens have flourished in beauty, programming, significant capital improvements, financial stability, and increased visitation. A fully renovated Inasmuch Foundation Crystal Bridge Conservatory has recently elevated the Gardens as a top botanical destination.

In 2017, her job expanded to help plan and operate the new 70-acre Scissortail Park. Since opening in 2019, the Park has had stunning success as a destination for all to enjoy its beauty, play elements, and signature programs Maureen initiated, including its Farmer’s Market, Concert Series, Night Markets, and Holiday events.

During her tenure, Myriad Gardens and Scissortail Park were awarded the Jerry Dickman Award for Excellence as the top nonprofit in Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits. Myriad Gardens also won the prestigious Best Urban Green Space Award by the Urban Land Institute.
